Well - the only guess I can come up with is the Black Hills. I've never been there, so it's just a wild guess - it was the pic of the hills that made me think of it - LOL.

I cheated by looking at your picture names and found a "Slate Creek" in the Black Hills of South Dakota. That and the prairie dogs definitely make me think you're over in that direction.
